Fog Shuts Long Beach Traffic After 12 Accidents
A dense fog blanketed Long Beach at 6 30 am and lingered for about 214 hours, triggering a dozen accidents within 10 minutes at Pacific Coast Hwy and 7th Street. One 20 year old, Jerry E Courtner of 1848 Florida Street, suffered head lacerations. Other minor crashes occurred at Bellflower Blvd and Los Coyotes Diagonal. The Lurline liner delayed two hours docking in Wilmington as visibility dropped to one to two miles. Weather reports predicted more fog tonight and early tomorrow with high seventies and later smog.

HOLYOKE Massachusetts AP a C47 plane crashed into the Connecticut River during a heavy rainstorm late Friday night four persons were rescued and four were missing. The two engine craft departed Bolling Air Force Base Washington bound for Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee Massachusetts. The plane crashed two miles north of Holyoke near Route 3 about three miles from Westover. Police and Air Force personnel recovered bodies and survivors and continued search until daybreak hampered by the rain. Survivors transferred to Westover SEB Hospital after treatment. Missing include Captain William Paulsen pilot and three others whose identities were withheld pending next of kin notices.
