Pope and U S Cardinals in Parley at Vatican
Pope John XXIII held a private audience with Cardinal Spellman of New York and Cardinal McIntyre of Los Angeles as he begins his reign. The visit signals possible elevation candidates to the Sacred College as the pope plans a consistory before year’s end. Also received were Cardinal Pla y Daniel of Toledo and Cardinal Caro of Santiago, the latter at 92 the oldest prince.
