Tide of fire halted in Los Angeles Ventura counties
A massive brush fire driven by a heat wave and gusty winds threatened five communities in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. About 1000 firefighters from volunteers, city and county crews, and Navy Seabees fought the blaze, using back fires to slow its advance near Agoura and Thousand Oaks. At least 10 homes burned in Box Canyon, with 75 families evacuated. The fire scorched over 10,000 acres, while a heat wave kept humidity low and winds up to 40 mph hampered efforts.
