A record total of state gasoline tax revenues is apportioned to California cities for street work this fiscal year. Los Angeles County cities receive the largest share at 11,612,968.07, Orange County 5,687,948.78, with Dairyland and Dairy Valley noted as first-time recipients.

A Long Beach woman and 11 others were involved in a head on crash on a three lane highway west of Studebaker Road. Ida Trean Choquette 62 died at Community Hospital. Five others were injured, two seriously, including Jerome Cholodenko 20 and Faith Cholodenko 17.

Long Beach area hosts Scout-o-rama at Memorial Stadium near Lakewood Boulevard and Carson Street on Saturday. Vermonnt Miss United States, Miss Johnson, will be queen with a 16-person court from Bellflower, Jordan, Wilson and Poly High Schools. Gates open at noon. program runs 2 PM to 12:2 AM with 40,000 tickets expected and 10,000 scouts participating across 225 booths.
A Balboa man and partner in Aldon Construction Co died in a Ventura motel from an apparent self-inflicted overdose. Donald Lewis Metz, 37, of 421 M St, co-founder of Aldon Construction with Willard Woodrow and the late Albert Leighton, left eight sealed letters and pills found near his body. Surviving are his wife Anita and son William of Long Beach. Funeral services to be announced by Mottell's and Peek Mortuaries.
Memorial service for William D. Newton, 27, who drowned when a light plane crash landed at sea Friday, will be held at 3 30 p m Sunday in Dilday Mortuary. Newton, of 5609 Carfax Ave, was an only child and leaves his wife Patricia, son William Jr, and his parents Thomas A Newton and Mrs Mary Newton along with grandmothers Mrs Mary Newton and Mrs Johnie Dorris.
Metz died after staying at the Ocean View Motel. Born in New York, he began as a May Co. mail clerk earning 12 a week and rose to a top buyer in New York City before moving to Los Angeles. An Army Corps of Engineers officer wounded in France in 1944, he helped found Alden Construction Co. Survivors include his wife Anita, daughters Donna 6 and Mary Alice 11, and his New York City parents. Stroman Mortuary of Los Angeles will handle the funeral.
