First captive whooping crane born at Audubon Park Zoo
Crip the whooping crane celebrates a historic birth at 2 36 PM Tuesday at Audubon Park Zoo. The chick is the 31st whooping crane known to exist in captivity, with mate Josephine laying two eggs last month and a second egg still to hatch. The newborn briefly peeked from under its mother as photographers captured the scene, its ruby coloring blending with the surroundings. The whooping crane, tallest North American bird, is described in vivid detail, while a lighter note mentions Lassie engaging a bullfrog on a CBS segment.
