City to fund retirement plan in 1949-50 budget

City Hall indicates a pension program for municipal workers will require a boost of several hundred thousand dollars in the B or miscellaneous budgets for 1949-50. City Manager Carl B Wirsching will include budgetary provisions as the City Council shows interest in a retirement plan, with about $650,000 needed in the first year for tax-supported departments. Also forthcoming is an estimated $465,000 to meet police and fire pension payments under the old system, making these two items the largest in the B budgets. Monies for land acquisition will also be placed in the B budgets, though the amount is not yet decided. Wirsching's budget staff plan to prepare the B budgets by extra work at City Hall.
