Udall Kansas and Blackwell Oklahoma were hardest hit as spring tornadoes swept 14 communities. Deaths total 80 with 55 in Udall and 18 in Blackwell. Oxford and Sweetwater also reported fatalities. Destruction left hundreds homeless and injuries reported across multiple towns. Rescue workers and aid agencies coordinated relief efforts.

Zirpoli announced in San Francisco that he will file a third executive clemency appeal for William Francis Rupp the Orange County slaver of a 15 year old girl scheduled for execution on June 17 Gov Goodwin Knight has twice refused clemency and the governor informed him no grounds exist for clemency.
Assemblyman Bruce Allen declines to move for reconsideration of a vote to refer his proposal to transfer 160 million dollars from Long Beach notes to the general fund to an interim committee. A final decision hinges on approaching deadlines as the session nears closure with potential motions possible Friday or Saturday.
Governor Knight is expected to sign the $1.529 billion state budget after a three day deadlock. The Assembly voted 69-2 and the Senate 35-0 to approve the revised measure, with reserves and spending provisions shaping the tax program. Los Angeles men George Kimbel and Vincent Cheap said a young woman hugged them near 7th and Olive Streets and offered advances they refused. Kimbel later found $124 missing from his billfold and Cheap $50, though both claim their wallets remained in their pockets.
Canon City Colorado searchers found Chuckie Lord, 21 months, drowned in an irrigation ditch near his parents home after his mother alerted for him. It was the second irrigation ditch death in the area in under three weeks. boy was the son of Mr and Mrs George A Lord.
Special shipments of whole blood and substitute blood plasma were en route today to Blackwell Oklahoma Udail Kansas for tornado victims. Braniff Airline carried the whole blood to Wichita via Kansas City and the plasma bound for Blackwell via Oklahoma City and Ponca City.
MOSCOW AP The Soviet Union formally accepted an invitation to participate in a Big Four parley at the summit. It charged the United States with preconditions that could doom the conference and urged Washington to abandon talks on Eastern Europe. The note accused U.S. policy of seeking strength over settlement and warned that discussing Eastern European affairs would be unacceptable. It included separate sections to Britain and France urging backing of Soviet views.
A B36 bomber crashed in a violent rain and hail storm near San Angelo Texas killing 14 airmen with nine bodies recovered from the wreckage. The plane carried a crew of about 14 or 15, with jet pods later found away from the crash site. The crash occurred 60 miles northwest of the city after radar contact at 10:44 p.m. and an eight mile descent into rugged ranchland.
Dr Charles Richter at Caltech reported a 6.5 magnitude quake occurred 3000 miles from Pasadena in an undetermined direction. The tremor was timed at 9 06 05 p m Pacific Daylight Time and could cause considerable damage if it struck a populated area.
President Eisenhower, West Point class of 1915, will deliver the graduation commencement address at the United States Military Academy. The June 7 speech will be televised from a West Point field house in color and black and white, marking a historic first for a sitting president at the academy.

Cimarron floods threaten U. S. 82 near Kingfisher. Stillwater area expected crest Friday. North Canadian rises at Weatonga. Salt Fork floods near Alva.
Hollywood singer Jeanette MacDonald has a warrant issued for her arrest in New York for alleged failure to maintain a rooming house. Magistrate Robert T Mahoney explained the arrest follows her third court no show. MacDonald said the property entered her trust as part of an investment for her mother and that Hanover Bank and later managers held responsibility for any issues.
A grain elevator explosion at Georgia Cotton Producers in Waynessurg, Ga. killed three workers and injured seventeen. The deceased were Joe Jackson, Willis Holmes, and Reverend Reuben Flournoy who also served as a minister. All victims were longtime employees.
California Highway Patrol announced all days off canceled and all available officers will patrol the roads during Memorial Day weekend. Commissioner Caldwell cautioned against predicting traffic tolls for the three day holiday.
