Spaatz denies Air Force approval of Navy supercarrier plan
General Carl A. Spaatz at a National Press Club luncheon rejected that the Air Force approved the Navy’s plan for a 65,000 ton super carrier. He said the paper sent to the Air Policy Commission did not constitute Air Force approval and warned naval aviation may be limited against a continent until land based air power weakens it. He favored a combined team of land sea and air and plans to write a book on the European air war.
