Louisiana Democrats Select Convention Delegates Today
Louisiana Democrats meet in Baton Rouge to choose 20 national convention delegates with Frank Ellis noting strong support for Senator Richard Russell of Georgia. In Washington State, Eisenhower and Taft factions clash as Spokane set to pick 24 GOP votes. Russell gains from North Carolina and a Taft district delegate from Alabama adds to a national tally. Maybank defends McKinney on civil rights compromise. Russell foresees little chance of a FEPC compromise.

Washington May 23 AP backers of Sen. Robert A Taft of Ohio claim they will control the party machinery through which delegate contests reach the floor of the presidential nominating convention. Taft aides say they will hold the majority in more than half of the 53 delegations and outnumber Eisenhower allies on the credentials committee, with potential to influence seating and roll call outcomes.
