Ghosts of Germs May Yield TB Vaccine Advances
Rockefeller Institute scientist Dr. Frank W. Weiss told the National Tuberculosis Association that extracts from killed human germs produced protection against tuberculosis in mice. He said the approach could lead to a human vaccine without using live or whole germs, supplementing existing BCG work which uses live bacteria and has storage drawbacks. The report, co authored with Dr. Rene J. Dubos, follows comments by NTA leaders on progress and remaining challenges in TB prevention and treatment.
