Prices Drop on Stock Mart High Priced Shares
New York Pi-Persistent offerings in a sizeable group of higher priced stocks sent prices down 51 to around 6 dollars a share on the New York Stock Exchange today. Activity was moderate until mid afternoon when there was a noticeable pickup in volume. Brokers had no immediate explanation for the sellors except to guess that the selling was to test the market's current technical position after its inability to shake off the lower trend evident in a majority of sessions over the past 10 days. Heaviest hit were the so called blue chips stocks in the higher price brackets. They included Gulf Oil Royal Dutch Santa Fe Union Carbide Allied Chemical Bethlehem Steel Union Pacific Aluminum Ltd Kennecott Copper U S Steel and Southern
