VE Day procession in Devon halted by fallen flagpole
Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh rode through Torquay when a 25-foot flagpole toppled near their car, narrowly missing collision. The incident halted the royal party briefly but no injuries were reported. Weather and safety concerns delayed VE Day anniversary plans as crews prepared alternative ceremonies.
