Dien Bien Phu Falls as French Holdout Survives Siege

Reports from Paris say Dien Bien Phu has fallen after 20 hours of combat. Gen De Castries commanded about 14,900 men at the fort, with rebels led by Gen Ho Nguyen Giap closing in. The fall ends a seven year struggle in Indochina as France pledges support for Geneva talks.

Court Shooting Kills 2 Wounds 2 in Bakersfield hallway

In a juvenile court hallway in Bakersfield two people were killed and two wounded in a burst of gunfire. The dead were Walter Riles 52 and Faye his wife 43. The wounded included William M Rigdon and Wilbur E Jones both 38. An investigator named Riley is believed to have done the shooting.

Santo Gang Convicted of Massacre in Chester Case

A Quincy jury found Jack Santo and Emmett Perkins guilty of the Chester massacre, adding to related murders and sparing no death penalty but urging life imprisonment for Harriet Henson.
