Reconciliation, Attempt Ends in Gunplay

Santa Ana report: Henry Bauer, 33, an appliance repairman, killed his mother-in-law Lilly Maria Tammaro and wounded his wife Joan L. Bauer, then fatally shot himself after an attempted reconciliation at a Santa Ana home. Mrs. Tammaro died, Mrs. Bauer remained critical. Bauer and Mrs. Tammaro were pronounced dead at the scene or Windigler Mortuary. Police said the couple had separated recently amid ongoing divorce proceedings.

Soviet Note Proposes US Join NATO-Style European Security

Paris dispatch reports the Soviet Union offering to include the United States as a party to its European security framework and to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. West Los Angeles Actress Denies Suicide Attempt After Overdose

Corinne Calvet, 27, clad in night attire, told reporters she did not attempt suicide or despair over her divorce from actor John Bromfield. Police found her unconscious at 2:30 am after taking sleeping pills, later treated and sent home from Santa Monica Hospital. She described the incident as a stupid accident and said she had been nervous for two months, losing 15 pounds.
