The Canadian heavy cruiser Quebec’s skipper Capt Frederick T. Burgess Comdr M H Little Lt Comdr Joan R Rose and civilian John F McGregor escaped drowning when their rented car plunged from the W Ocean Blvd bridge into the Los Angeles River. The car flipped and sank. all four reached shore. Burgess had a minor leg cut. others uninjured.
Five airmen from Norton AFB San Bernardino were injured on Coast Highway near Huntington Beach one possibly critical after their car rear ended another. Col Charles R. Crabtree was identified as the driver. Jack L. Stephens of Compton was unhurt. Soldiers Sgt Guile Rush Sgt Doneki Johnson Sgt Albert Porto and Sgt Frederick Haninger Jr. were also injured.
William Young, 27, returned home to find his wife Rosa Della Young dead from a .30 caliber rifle shot in their living room at 5 p.m. Two shots were fired, with the first a test. Rosa had been in psychiatric treatment. Neighbor Catherine Schiller heard a loud report between 8:30 and 10 a.m. and found Rosa alive when she checked after the initial sound. The rifle, bought March 10, with bullets arriving Friday, was linked to the case. The body was taken to B. W. Coon Funeral Home.

Magnolia Ark March 29 Courageous four year old Freddie Thomason has no arms or legs. The Kiwanis Club of Magnolia started the Freddie Fund which has grown to sixteen thousand seven hundred sixty one dollars. Freddie receives treatment at the Kessler Institute in New Jersey with Dr Henry H Kessler offering to help free of charge. He has artificial legs and may walk someday, escorted by his mother and a Magnolia nurse on trips for care. His fourth birthday will be celebrated with a cake and four candies as his Kiwanis Club hosts Freddie's Birthday Party and soldiers from Korea who call him king plan a visit when they return.
Former Florida Democratic Senator Claude Pepper attended the Jefferson Jackson Day dinner in Washington on March 29. His condition worsened during the evening, with reports suggesting a serious viral infection.
