Coaches Plan Olympic Team Reforms For 1956 US Squad
New York March 24 A P proposed rules changes for next season will be considered Thursday and Friday by the National Basketball Committee of the United States and Kansas. The National Association of Basketball Coaches will decide Friday how to pick the 14 members of the team to represent the United States in the Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. The changes include allowing coaches to talk with players at the bench during timeouts abolishing the rule requiring substitutes to report directly to the referee or umpire allowing the same pivot tempo for starting to dribble as for passing and shooting requiring players who have fouled to raise a hand limiting players to five digits to facilitate signals moving jump balls to the nearest restraining circle limiting all intermissions to one minute except between halves and other tweaks. Chairman Lou Wilke said the coach of the winning Olympic trial team would be the Olympic coach and an assistant coach would be chosen Friday.
