Rehearsing W. Germans Put Kleiber in New Post
West German officials said Erich Kleiber began rehearsals for an Easter broadcast of Carl Maria von Weber Der Freischutz and would conduct a Beethoven concert in April after fleeing East Berlin. His letter cited political interference and a renewed push to remove a 200 year old gold inscription on the opera house facade as the immediate cause for his departure. He left with his wife and son Carlos.
