Two U S Air Force planes crashed in Newfoundland on Wednesday. An RB 36 eight engine bomber struck a hilltop along the isolated east coast killing all 23 aboard including Brig Gen Richard E Ellsworth. Ten bodies were recovered near the wreck. A second Superfortress with 10 crew crashed at St Georges Bay. no survivors. Rescue teams aided by a C 47 transport faced freezing drizzle and low visibility.
