Sailors Union Boss Warns of Sellout Plan to Meet Foreign Ships
In San Francisco and on the West Coast Lundeberg outlines a plan to crew a second ship with reduced crews and longer hours to cut costs and compete with lower foreign wages. CIO unions cry sellout while other unions fear full Sailors Union job takeover. East Coast leaders denounce the move as a major betrayal to maritime workers. The plan, tied to legislation discussions in Washington, aims to sign more ships under the new policy despite opposition.
