Five Long Beach homes were hit Sunday night by BB gun pellets. Victims reported a car passing as windows were struck between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Damage ranged from minor to moderate. Names and addresses were partially listed in the police report.
Nine men and two juveniles confessed to taking part in a gangland style gun attack in Long Beach last Monday night that wounded three people. Police say complaints will be filed against adults for conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, with juvenile petitions for the two youths. Names, addresses, and details point to a San Pedro Compton area gang, with several suspects listed and a prior court action against one arrested in a separate case.
Washington reports the United States and Australia opened White House talks led by President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Robert G. Menzies to discuss allied strategy for Formosa and Southeast Asia. A Sunday crash on a straight stretch near Seagraves Texas killed four and injured three. The dead were DL Reed of Tahoka Texas Charles Wayne Hensley 19 Levelland Mrs Wilma Raye Carrigan Levelland and her sister in law Bonnie Lenore Thompson 22 Levelland.

In Saigon indochina a group hurled two hand grenades at Governor Tran Van Lam in front of his residence but missed. Lam and his chauffeur survived unhurt as guards opened fire. The incident clouds tensions between dissident sects Hoa Hao Cao Dai and Binh Xuyen and the government led by Ngo Dinh Diem, while U.S. backing remains for a strong anti-Communist state. Troops from the Nung tribe were ordered to move toward the capital for security.

An elderly pedestrian, Margaret Walther, 77, of 1009 E 4th St, was killed when a car driven by James J. LemMon, 23, struck a parked vehicle and then collided with her on 4th St near Bonito Ave. LemMon was arrested for investigation of fel o drunk driving. The crash occurred at about 9:45 p.m. and the victim was declared dead on arrival at Seaside Hospital. Survivors include her son Herman Walther of Palos Verdes. This marked the year’s fatal traffic death and the first pedestrian death thus far.

A husky gunman forced entry into the British embassy in Moscow wounding a Russian policeman who confronted him. Security staff subdued the intruder and he was handed to police as Sir William and Lady Hayter were away skiing. No motive was learned. The incident prompted a government report from the embassy and disrupted telephonic coverage from Moscow.
