Witness in Spy Case Reported Located by FBI
Washington March 12. A person with contacts in the Justice Department said the FBI had picked up a photographer linked to prewar espionage claims. The man was located in California, according to Chambers backer. FBI declined to comment and House committee members said they had not been notified. Sen Mundt suggested the figure could corroborate Chambers testimony about copying documents. Chambers, a former courier for a Communist ring, said Alger Hiss supplied him with material. Hiss denies it and awaits trial after a perjury indictment.
