Court Convicts Woman of Arson in Maryland Case

A 24 year old woman, Helen J. Lock, was found guilty of arson after testifying that she directed her 13 year old foster daughter Louise Morrison to set fire to a neighbor’s home three times. The girl said the motive was to remove Dorothy Selmer, owner's daughter, and the final blaze left the house burned to the ground. Louise, who lived with Mrs. Lock in Jessup, testified she did it for excitement and that Mrs. Lock urged her to burn the Selmer house. Fire crews saved parts of the structure on two prior occasions. Judge James Clark of Anne Arundel Circuit Court withheld sentence.
