Parolee Rampage At Wichita Press Room Fire Shot Fired
A 21 year old reformatory parolee in Wichita Kansas set fire to the Eagle press room and fired a shotgun blast in the control room forcing station KFH engineer to tape a statement. He claimed the act to highlight parole system inequalities and had stashed speed gauges in the press. Damage ran to several hundred dollars. Police booked him on parole status for investigation.

Pair Admits $25,000 Bad Check Trail
Los Angeles detectives say a man and a woman admitted forging and passing more than 23 thousand dollars in checks over 21 years. Gilbert L. Smith, 37, was arrested on five forgery counts. Mildred Lupton Kolpak, 32, of Detroit, booked on forgery suspicion. Smith claimed a $25,000 loss estimate and described a nationwide scheme with a printing press and hundreds of blank checks.

Irving teachers strike over superintendent's dismissal continues
In Irving Texas a larger group of school employees and teachers stayed off duty despite a state official urging a return to work. They protested the firing of Dr John L Beard as superintendent and demanded reinstatement. The school board under Charles B Young has since dismissed nine executives including seven principals.

Reporter Who Won Pardon for Man Dies
James P. McGuire, 51, Chicago Sun-Times police reporter who aided the 1944 Joe Majcek murder case inquiry that led to Majcek’s 1945 pardon, died of a heart attack. A former Times reporter, he earned national awards and was technical adviser for Call Northside 777. Survived by widow Betty.
