Huge wounded fish spurs divers to hunt for diver’s body
A giant black sea bass, possibly dragging diver Jack Nichols to his death, was sighted wounded near Goat Harbor Catalina Island. Lifeguards found a broken nylon line, and volunteers from Redondo Beach and mainland lifeguards will join Bay Watch to conduct a final body search Wednesday alongside Matt Toggweiler’s boat Maray. Nichols, 18, from Los Angeles, disappeared while spear fishing with 19 other divers aboard the Maray. Nichols was treasurer of the Los Angeles Neptune Club.
