Jailed in Plot on Cuba's Chief Guy Batista Conspiracy
In Havana 17 suspects were rounded up in a conspiracy to assassinate President Fulgencio Batista and spark a revolt. Mexican police reported 26 detainees in Mexico City, mostly Cuban exiles, plus an Argentine and a Spaniard. A Cuban police chief named ex-president Carlos Prio Socarras as implicated, which Prio denies from Miami. Authorities said arms were found in several homes and plotters had aid from groups in Miami, Tampa, New York, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala and Cuban cities.
