Police Seek New Leads in Stella Nolan Disappearance

Police expand the Stella Darlene Nolan search as deputies chase new leads across Rivers ide and San Diego Counties. An unidentified 30-year-old male was seen wrestling with a woman matching Stella’s description near Hemet and Sige, driving off in a blue 185L Chevrolet. Stella, eight, from Compton, vanished Saturday near a Norwalk area stand. foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nolan reported she was friendly with Dooley children. A second ground search is planned for 8 a.m. Sunday.

Holdup Man Slain in L A Robbery On Temple Street

In Los Angeles two robbers entered the Roost Cafe on Temple Street ordering patrons to the bar and announcing a holdup. One man was killed, another wounded by police fire as they fled. George A. Kingsbury, 42, identified as slain, with $160 taken from the register. Officers Long and Norman reported eight shots fired during the confrontation. One robber escaped in a car with an accomplice.

North Carolina Senator Smith Dies at 63

Washington AP Sen Willis Smith a 63 year old North Carolina Democrat who won a 1950 Senate seat in a fierce primary battle died at Bethesda Naval Hospital near Washington. He faced criticism for opposing some of Truman’s Fair Deal proposals and had served on internal security and Office of Alien Property investigations. Smith’s death triggers Senate shift and a pending appointment by Gov Umstead. He was a Raleigh native and former president of the American Bar Association with four children.
