Liquor Tax Levy Slated for June 30
Sacramento notes Wi Goodwin J Knight's 1.30 a gallon liquor tax to take effect June 30 with 706000 expected in the state treasury on day one. The State Board of Equalization says a 70 cent levy will apply to floor stocks held by retail establishments as of June 30. Retailers would have paid 60 cents per gallon on stocks already. The board says the 1.50 tax was a concession to Knight's 82 million luxury tax plan for 1955 session.
