Bandit slain by bank cashier after Tustin hold up
A bank cashier shot and killed an armed bandit identified as Raymond R. Barker during a holdup at Tustin First National Bank. Barker fled in a car with $2500 after forcing tellers into the vault. the car rammed a parked vehicle and halted. Barker’s fingerprints were sent to Washington for identification. In a separate incident off Cabrillo Beach a mother and her son drowned when their small boat sank, while a daughter survived. Kenneth Sill and the Sea Scouts assisted, but Catherine Sill 36 and John Sill 14 died.

In Chicago two Chicago and North Western streamliner coaches derailed during switching at North Western station. At 7 08 am on June 23 a UPA minister led a prayer as a pistol fired and 180 men swarmed a building lot to erect the Montgomery Village Presbyterian Church in a day. Fire trapping the Negrete children under beds, a barred exit and flames from a closet fire caused the deaths of Antonio and Urbana Negrete's five youngsters aged 2 to 12 at 5704 Juarez Street West Whittier.
