Errors Revealed by Bomb Test
Civil defense officials say last Monday’s simulated atomic blast showed shelter options would be scarcer than food. Only 39 of 162 hotels and motels and 46 of 88 schools lay outside destruction zones. Housing plans failed, and shelter capacity would be tight for 3000 people. Food supplies looked adequate for three days, but transport and communications were weak. Fire Chief Frank Sandeman praised the exercise for exposing planning defects.
