Tremor Shakes Oakland Windows and Buildings
A sharp earthquake swayed chandeliers and shook windows in Oakland today. No damage reported. The tremor, centered about 14 feet south of the Berkeley campus, was felt mainly in East Oakland San Leandro Hayward and Alameda. Seismologist Charles Herricks said it lasted three minutes on instruments. The quake was recorded at 10 50 03 a m pdt at the University of California Berkeley.

Heat wave sweeps the south central states with temperatures exceeding 100 across Kansas Missouri Oklahoma Texas Arkansas and parts of Tennessee Louisiana and Mississippi. Bus Crash Kills Five Injures 30
A Westsound Greyhound bus wreck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Harrisburg killed five women and injured about 30. The bus skidded, hit a parked tractor-trailer, and was en route from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. One identified victim was Mrs Southerland of Washington PA. others unnamed.
