Divorce Granted to Anthony Eden on Desertion Plea
London June 8 Former Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden won a divorce decree by testifying that his wife deserted him in 1947 to live in America The decree nisi was granted in a five minute hearing before Justice Francis Hodson His wife did not contest the action and was not present in court Eden said she accompanied him to the United States in 1946 and refused to return Some observers think the divorce could hinder his political ascent within the Conservative party and his bid for prime minister while Churchill noted Eden would carry on the party’s torch.
