Valkov, new chief of protocol of the Soviet Embassy in East Berlin, met Protocol Chief Walter Klein to announce his appointment and Soviet recognition of West Berlin's four power status.

In Florida on May 29 Adlai Stevenson defeated Estes Kefauver by a narrow margin of 13,736 votes. The Secretary of State tabulations show Stevenson with 230,285 votes and Kefauver with 216,549, awarding Stevenson 22 delegates to the Democratic National Convention while Kefauver secured six. Kefauver gained six delegates plus two for each of the five congressional districts he carried.
In St Louis, Caudle and White House aide Connelly face trial over alleged schemes to derail a tax case. Evidence shows oil royalties bought for 750 and 3600 dollars, with Anderson claiming Caudle urged Schwimmer to transfer ownership. The defense says Schwimmer bought the royalties for influence, while Sachs faced 1951 tax evasion penalties.
