Japan Red Riots Cost Three Lives
National rural police headquar ters announced 130 arrests in Friday's Communist martyr's day demonstrations across Japan. Casualties totaled three demonstrators killed and at least 38 injured including 30 policemen. Authorities reported three policemen and two demonstrators were hurt. In Palos Verdes Estates a May census showed a 50 percent population gain over two years, with about 20,000 Japanese and Koreans participating in anniversary demonstrations and about 25,000 police called out.

Forest Fire Burns 90 Acres in Gila Wilderness Near Cliff
A forest fire is burning over about 90 acres in an inaccessible part of the Gila wilderness area near Cliff in southwestern New Mexico. Ken Wilson, regional fire chief for the Forest Service at Albuquerque, said smoke jumpers were flown over the fire but could not jump because the terrain was unsafe.
