Key Clears Riddle of House Numbering

Long Beach city engineer Mark H. Houghton explains street numbering rules. The original townsite used 25-foot lots halved for numbers, one per 12.5 feet of frontage, with blocks limited to 100 numbers and blocks about 350 feet long. Belmont Shore curves alter block lengths, sometimes yielding only one number on a 50-foot frontage. In areas with 30-foot lots, half numbers cover each dwelling. multiple units on a 12.5-foot lot get designations A, B, etc.
