VA plans drive against schools shady practices
Washington July 30 The Veterans Administration plans action against questionable private veteran schools amid racketeering concerns E V Stirling assistant administrator says some of the 1400 new veteran schools border on rackets. He cites active enrollment targeting veterans who used government aid elsewhere but have not exhausted benefits. rising unemployment fuels the trend with subsistence payments of 75 to 120 dollars monthly per veteran. Stirling notes new schools arise in jobless areas though Congress never intended education aid as relief or bonus. He points to 30 new private schools in three weeks across three eastern counties exploiting a temporary drop in employment.
