Plans Set Up for Enforcing Korean Truce
Allied and Communist forces agreed to begin exchanging nearly 87,000 prisoners of war on August 5 at Panmunjom while the joint military armistice commission activated machinery to enforce the armistice. The Reds would release about 400 prisoners daily, with the U.N. Command aiming for about 2,760 daily, including 360 sick and wounded. Maj. Gen. Blackshear M. Bryan led the Allied team as plans were adopted for Premier exchange and the five tracing bodies met in Panmunjom. Bryan called the first meeting like walking a tightrope, noting readiness to start this week though speed from the Reds was uncertain. The commission’s schedule set an 11 a.m. Wednesday meeting. Additional actions include a 2.5 mile buffer zone and evacuation of key islands, as well as President Syngman Rhee’s claim of full UN backing in resisting aggression.

Second Truck Driver Shot on Turnpike
PITTSBURG The second truck driver in three days was shot to death while he slept early today on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Harry Frank Itts 39 of Bowling Green was not robbed. Police said a maniac is on the turnpike as a manhunt spans the highway and nearby roads. Scene was three miles west of Laurel Tunnel and five miles east of Donegal. Earlier Lester B. Woodward 30 of near Harrisburg was killed last Saturday while asleep in his cab. Violence surprises truckers in 15 years since the turnpike opened.
