Polio Claims Jamboree Boy Scout A V Edmonds

A V Edmonds 14 of Kingston Tennessee died at Corona Naval Hospital after bulbar polio, contracted during the National Boy Scout Jamboree. Parents Levi and Mrs Edmonds rushed to be by his side. he had been hospitalized July 21 and placed on a respirator. Thirty nine troop members received gamma globulin after his illness. Two additional polio cases were reported during the week-long event.

A thief stole a new air conditioned Greyhound bus from a parking lot opposite Central Police station in Cincinnati. The bus, weighing several tons, had enough fuel for about 620 miles and was one of the company's newest vehicles.

Boy Dies After Hula Skirt Burns At Grandmother's Home

A 6 year old boy died at Magnolia Hospital at 4 30 am from burns after his hula skirt caught fire when he wandered near a neighbor burning trash at his grandmother Viola Randall mans home 255 East 53rd Street. He suffered extensive burns over 40 percent of his torso face and limbs. a garden hose and clothing removal aided him until hospital care.

Berserk Gunman Wounds Officer Shot to Death

In Lakewood Colorado a man identified as Kenneth Stanley 38 fired a .32 revolver in a supermarket injuring C Richard Schippers of Golden who survived a shoulder wound. Stanley earlier forced officers from his apartment with a 45 pistol and later died after a tear gas strike and return fire by deputies and patrolmen ending a gun battle outside his car.
