Slim New Navy Blimp Closes Base Amid Flood Threat
The U S Fifth blimp designated 2G-1 built by Goodyear was flown over Seoul and the Han River flood levels prompted the Seoul Municipal Air Base to close to all traffic. The base near the main runway was shut as water levels rose to about 22 feet threatening operations and the blimp was deployed for air defense and submarine detection. The event recalls wartime measures when rivers overflowed.
