Spain to halt arms shipments to Egypt under international pressure
London UPI reports Spain promised to stop exporting arms to Egypt in view of the current international situation. The pledge followed representations from Britain and the United States to General Franco's government. Britain and Egypt are quietly negotiating in Cairo over a possible drawdown of the 80 000 strong garrison and a new defense pact with Western support. The US previously supplied equipment to the Franco regime under a military aid agreement.

Board votes down bid to reinstate state liquor chief
SACRAMENTO California Board of Equalization voted 4 to 1 to deny reinstatement for Charles Berry as state liquor administrator for the San Diego area. Berry had refused to answer questions before the San Diego County Grand Jury, later indicted for bribery and theft. Los Angeles board member William G Bonelli urged restoring Berry, while four members opposed. Attorney General William M Bennett defended the firing as proper given Berry’s refusal to testify and said reinstate through a hearing is possible. Bonelli pressed to revoke 30 liquor licenses in LA and SD counties tied to fraud and speculation claims by the attorney general.
