Officials See No Drastic Effects From Truman Housing Curbs
Local builders and bankers say President Truman's credit restrictions will not cause immediate changes in housing here. Down payments of 5 percent may apply to veterans, with $600 on a $9,000 house including impounds. Lakewood Park and Walker and Lee report current policies stay in place for now, with 5 percent down likely only when large projects are sold. HUD and FHA officials await further instructions, but major developers expect no sharp drop in sales once 5 percent down is required.
