House cuts atomic and defense programs in 1948 appropriations
The House Appropriations Committee rejected President Eisenhower's request for 30 million dollars to fund free Salk polio vaccines for needy children, saying the program lacks authorization. It approved an 1,648,876,128 spending bill with cuts to atomic and defense projects and halted further spending on the 125 million Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. It also approved funds to aid state polio vaccination efforts and related health programs.
