Religious Songs Proving Rage of Tin Pan Alley
New York reports a surge of religious songs in pop music publishing as labels rush to print religiosos amid troubled times. Arnold Shaw notes the trend as the biggest yet with 19 different recordings of Our Lady of Fatima and songs like Music By the Angels fueling demand. Lon Levy cites religion as a major focus for many professional songwriters, while juke box operators show skepticism about the craze lasting beyond six months to five years.
