Denies Plot Convicted Chessman in a Federal Hearing

In San Francisco a federal court hearing Tuesday featured Chessman’s attorney Davis and judge Goodman addressing transcripts of Chessman’s 1949 trial. Fraser testified he did not take orders from Leavy to alter the draft though he discussed notes with Leavy when deciphering them. Chessman seeks a new trial while continuing to challenge his conviction and death sentence, noting prior reprieves. Separately, a Senate bill proposed Metropolis Transit Authority purchases and fines related to Metropolitan Coach Lines and Los Angeles Transit Lines, with MTA manager Morelts stating negotiations are open and no payoffs are known. The memo also mentions a $41 million bond plan and fee questions for investment bankers.
