Century's Worst Blizzards Ravage East and West
A massive weekend storm system brought one of century’s worst blizzards to the western states halting travel and causing power losses, while a separate hurricane-force east blizzard prompted stay-home warnings across New York, the Pacific Northwest, and parts of the Rocky Mountain region. At least 29 deaths were reported from traffic crashes, drownings, and wind-related incidents nationwide. Arkansas floods rose, ice and heavy rain swelled rivers, and cold air plunged temperatures by up to 43 degrees in the Midwest and Great Lakes.
