United Nations Pursues Final Peace Bid on Korea
At Lake Success the United Nations pressed a five point plan offering a Far East political conference in exchange for a Korean cease fire. The United States endorsed the plan while the Soviet bloc showed cool interest. Non Communist spokesmen warned that rejection by Peiping would stall peace moves and prolong war. Diplomats saw limited hope China’s Communist leadership would accept but viewed the move as a worthwhile demonstration of exhausting all options. The ceasefire commission plan would be placed before the 60 nation political committee in a resolution this afternoon.
