Car Strikes Pole Injuring Driver on Los Coyotes Drag

Clifford Prior, 31, of 4321 E Ocean Blvd, was seriously injured at 12 10 am when his car hit a utility pole on Los Coyotes Drag south of Stearns St. He was taken to Community Hospital with fractured ribs and facial and knee injuries. Police cited him for driving with a suspended license and for license status. The pole snapped. car heavily damaged and street rerouted.

City Parkways Offers Free Trees To Property Owners

Park Superintendent Ernest Barker announced free trees available for planting at the Public Service Department office 1601 San Francisco Ave. More than half of the 4000 trees have been claimed, with jacarandas and Brazilian pepper trees sold out. No cocos palms remain due to demand. office will be closed this weekend as it was last weekend.

Air Force shortens cadet duty tours and officer paths

Since 1950 the Air Force reduced cadet duty tours from four to two years for those who do not complete civilian aviation courses. Eligible cadets may apply for Officer Candidate School as a path to commissioning. Those completing flying training remain second lieutenants in the Air Force Reserve and serve three years on active duty. Ensign John B. Farrell reports to Corry Field Pensacola for instrument and night flying training after Naval Academy studies. Also noted are birth of Mary Patricia Mulligan on Jan 2 and former Navy chief petty officers Hansen and Cornielus now serving in Air Force recruit duty here.

Morals Suspect Held on Old Count

Donald Clair Deem, 27, free on 35000 bail for mistreating a 8 year old boy, rearrested as suspect in a morals case involving a 6 year old girl. Detectives linked fingerprints from a vacant house scene to Deem and questioned him in the Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Trelstad murder case near a Signal Hill oil well. Police said he is also suspected in another case of felonious child molestation and he faces a Friday municipal court prelim.

Bridge financing agreement signed for LA River bridge

A tri party agreement allocates 227705 in oil revenue from the County Flood Control District to finance major bridge costs for raising the W Bradway bridge across the Los Angeles River. City Manager Samuel E. Vickers signs along with the Board of Harbor Commissioners and flood control district directors. Total cost of the bridge job is 136450 and is well under way.

Guilt Denied by Man in Gunplay Case in L A

Wayne Grunder, 34, of Long Beach, pleads not guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in Los Angeles Superior Court. He allegedly fired at his brother in law, Hubert McCracken, Dec 13, the bullet lodging in a kitchen cupboard. Trial set for Feb 13 in Dept. 39.
