Loss of McFarland Leaves LBCC Knockoff Title Hopes
Long Beach City College head coach Charlie Church faces a tough Metro season as star forward Bill McFarland gets military orders and leaves the Vikings short-handed for a four year Air Force service stint. With McFarland scoring regularly, LBCC shifts to a clouded outlook while Bakersfield Valley and San Diego are tipped as top contenders in the Metropolitan Conference. The veteran guard had been the team’s core scorer, averaging around 20 points per game, and his absence leaves a gap in a squad lacking immediate replacements.
