Forgeries for Nugent Name Told at Court Martial
At Ft. Sill Oklahoma Maj Ambrose H Nugent’s court martial on collaboration charges recessed after testimony that Nugent’s name was forged on two North Korean surrender leaflets. Retired Col Charles A Ellis testified Nugent’s signature was forged on the leaflets while he was a prisoner of war. Maj Clifford Allen, a Los Angeles officer, testified about brutality of captors and a near emasculation threat. Nugent’s lawyers say he cooperated with the enemy to save fellow POWs from death. The trial, in its fifth week, will resume after Washington’s Birthday with charges including aiding the North Korean enemy, failing to escape, signing anti American petitions, and propaganda recordings.
