Six Die As Baby Spills Gasoline Trigger Explosion

In Highland Heights near Pontiac Michigan a 19 month old spilled gasoline igniting a blaze that killed six people in a basement home. Victims include Lamet Fowler 29 and his three year old daughter Jeannie and Robert Zeller 28 his wife Anita 22 and their two children Gloria Jean seven months and Robert Jr 19 months. Firefighters found the bodies amid wreckage after the blast cut off oxygen in the room. The incident followed Zeller and Fowler attempting to clean up gasoline near a coal stove.

Bio Brass Mill to Be Built at Paramount

American Brass Co announces a 13 million dollar brass mill to be constructed in Paramount California. The plant will produce copper and copper base alloys in sheet ship rod tubing and drawn copper products with an estimated annual capacity of 30 million pounds. The site spans 45 acres north of Corpton Blvd between Garfield Ave and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The facility will employ about 500 workers and is expected to boost Southern California prosperity. Construction is planned to begin soon with bids issued for specifications.

Fire Devastates Wool Dock in Wellington

A waterfront fire in Wellington, New Zealand destroyed an estimated three million dollars worth of wool awaiting shipment. Fire crews battled the blaze with all available equipment. the flames threatened the dock area and at least two firefighters were hospitalized from smoke inhalation.

Rescued Collegian Marooned Three Hours on Breakwater

Donald D. McCampbell, 21, of 4765 Caldwell Ave, UCLA frat member, spent three hours marooned on a breakwater after his brothers of Kappa Sigma tied him and blindfolded him then drove him to Long Beach. He was rescued by Navy and later released after questioning by Navy authorities and Long Beach police.

Smoke scare evacuates Lakewood campus library crowd

A smoke scare in the north reading room of the Lakewood campus Library of Long Beach City College caused 2300 students to evacuate. Head caretaker Donald Ransford said the alarm tripped when a transformer in overhead fluorescent lights burned out, producing dense smoke. No damage occurred.
