Western reports say a Soviet Army division moved toward Berlin outskirts and heavy arms were handed to police to quell East German unrest. About 10% of those arrested faced charges linked to attacking Russia’s position at the Big Four talks amid fears of a June revolt.
An Army officer aboard the USNS Gen. M. M. Patrick died at 2:30 a.m. while 350 miles off the Washington coast en route to Seattie. The Coast Guard reported the man in critical condition earlier, with portable iron lungs aboard for a mercy flight to assist him.
A young mother of three was fatally shot in her back yard at 456 Plenty St. Police issued an all-points bulletin for her husband Salvadore Tapia a 45 year old county employee who may be armed. Neighbors say the couple recently separated and Tapia was not living at the address. Tapia is described as 6 feet tall with a dark complexion and wearing tan trousers a khaki shirt and a tan hat. Bidault and Eden backed the idea, while Molotov offered no engagement and floated cost-cutting as leverage. A Los Angeles Harbor collision between the Terminal Island ferry Islander and the Union Oil tanker Oleum at 7 45 am left a San Pedro man with a probable fractured left hip and knocked others to the deck. More than 100 ferry riders were shaken but mostly uninjured as fog delayed ships and caused several traffic crashes in the harbor area.

The estate stems from great‑grandmother Mrs Stella Housman and first husband Max Bernheimer, with a $6.2 million windfall triggered by a 1940s will. The boy, born Wayne William Lonergan, now William Anthony Burton, had lived with his maternal grandmother in Manhattan while a probate case unfolds. His father remains imprisoned with parole due in 1967.
A Parker fire killed three children aged 3, 15, and 9 as their small frame house burned while they slept about a mile north of town. The victims were Shirley Velma Freeman 3 Cord Sue Freeman 15 and Brent Freeman 9. Their father Henry F Freeman discovered the blaze and tried to enter the house but was driven back by heat.
